The Borough of Somerset West and Taunton has been zoned and is cleansed in line with the Code of Practice on Litter and Refuse, which is regulated by Defra. Each zone has been classified with a response time:
- Zone 1 – High Intensity of Use: response time of ½ a working day. This means by 6pm if reported by 1pm, or by 1pm the next duty day if reported between 1pm and 6pm on the previous day. Zone 1 areas are in the Taunton and Wellington town areas where there is a high amount of usage.
- Zone 2 – Medium Intensity of Use: response time of 1 working day. This means by 6pm the following day. Zone 2 areas are predominantly town estates and medium sized villages.
- Zone 3 – Low intensity of use: response time of 14 working days. Zone 3 areas are the main highway roads within the Borough.
- Zone 4 – Special Circumstances: response time of 28 days, or as soon as reasonably practicable. Zone 4 areas are rural areas, small villages, and rural roads.
