Green Flag Awards

Have a question not covered here?

idverde is a long-time supporter of the Green Flag Awards scheme, which run by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy. A Green Flag flying at a park or greenspace denotes that it boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained, and has excellent visitor facilities.

The Green Flag Awards are not only a useful benchmark for quality, but also provide an invaluable opportunity to develop and strengthen relationships with our clients and local communities by working towards plannedsustainable, and cost-effective improvements to their local green spaces.

By helping our clients and their local communities work towards a Green Flag we don’t only focus on ensuring the maintenance of the site is carried out to the highest possible standard; we commit to working collaboratively to engage positively with all local stakeholders to realise all the benefits that parks can bring as recreational, educational, social, and healthy spaces to be enjoyed and cared for by all.

Many of our colleagues are trained as Green Flag judges and so can provide expert insight into the assessment process. We have also used this expertise to closely support our Local Authority clients in writing Green Flag Management Plans to not only aid the assessment process for their Green Flag application, but, more importantly, to help improve the value of their green spaces for the benefit of the local community.

In 2020 we were delighted to help deliver Green Flag Awards at 120 sites across our client portfolio, a testament to the success of close partnership working with our clients and their local parks users, and to our continued commitment to helping our clients to deliver high quality green spaces which benefit the health and wellbeing of the whole community.

Services we offer to support the Green Flag Award application process include:

  • Informal assessment of green spaces against judging criteria
  • Recommendations for improvements
  • Mapping of and consultation with stakeholder groups such as ‘Friends of’
  • Training sessions to provide understanding of the application process
  • Full support with Management Plan writing for submission
