Worle Crematorium was opened by Weston-super-Mare Council in 1966 to provide new burial grounds to supplement Weston-super-Mare’s old town cemetery.
In 2019, idverde was sub-contracted to Pollard to support works to extend the cemetery and to create a new memorial garden.
The scope of works carried out by idverde included planting trees and shrubs, as well as turfing and seeding, and hard landscaping elements such as placing boulders and cobbles, and minor fencing work.
idverde acted with utmost care while carrying out the works in order to minimise disturbance at this working crematorium.
There were issues with access to the Memorial Garden due to it being at a lower level to the rest of the site so ramps were formed at either end to allow equipment to be moved in and out with minimum disturbance. We also used ground guards to protect surfaces.
Steve Gant, crematoria director for Dignity, which manages the crematorium, said: “Extending this important place of remembrance will provide people with a single site cemetery, making good use of existing facilities and providing burial space for generations to come.”
