More projects for The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea

idverde recently worked with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and local residents to install a wildflower meadow in the Olympia Wildlife Garden in The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

The idea for the Olympia Wildlife Garden was brought to the council in order to create a thriving, biodiverse and tranquil place for wildlife. Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea have a number of objectives to enhance biodiversity and work with a range of conservation experts and organisations to protect and conserve species in the area. As part of our recent contract win, we are working together with the council to improve the environment within the borough.

About the project

A wildflower meadow was installed on a previously disused railway, recently acquired from Network Rail by local residents. idverde moved and shaped the low fertility soil and laid a pre-made wildflower turf.

Wildflower meadows create a lively area for insects, birds and small animals to live and feed whilst also bringing colour into the area. They play an important part in biodiversity, especially as the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is a densely populated borough with only 19% of the borough designated as open spaces!

“The team were excellent and their upbeat friendly attitude was a treat on a chilly Saturday morning. Hopefully, this project sparks further partnership work between the council, idverde and the local community, bringing real change to the environment of RBKC for both people and wildlife.” - Patrick Markey-Bell, RBKC Ecology Project Manager.
The project goes a long way in creating great biodiverse habitat for fauna in the borough and a great addition to Olympia Station, improving the vista for all who use the facility and a can be seen as an example of how a disused urban situation can be changed to benefit the natural world.” - Gerald Kelsey, idverde Kensington Training and Development Manager.
