idverde Triumphs at 2025 BALI National Landscape Awards for Wormwood Scrubs

idverde is proud to announce its success at the prestigious British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) National Landscape Awards 2025, winning in the Nature Conservation & Biodiversity Enhancement category for its outstanding work at Wormwood Scrubs.

Kate McVay, RSPB Advisor at Wormwood Scrubs said “We’re absolutely thrilled that Wormwood Scrubs has been recognised with a BALI National Landscape Award in the Nature Conservation & Biodiversity Enhancement category. The Scrubs is a biodiverse haven nestled within a heavily urbanised and industrialised area, making its ecological value even more significant. Our approach to managing the site embraces the ‘more wild than tamed’ ethos championed by the Friends of Wormwood Scrubs, using sympathetic, volunteer-led techniques such as hedgelaying and scything. We also apply evidence-based management, guided by ecological survey data, to ensure our work continues to positively impact the diverse species that call the Scrubs home throughout the year.”

The award recognises idverde’s commitment to ecological stewardship and sustainable landscape management, with Wormwood Scrubs standing out for its innovative approach to biodiversity enhancement and long-term conservation impact. The site, one of London’s largest open spaces, has been transformed into a thriving habitat supporting a wide range of flora and fauna, while remaining accessible and engaging for the local community.

Wayne Grills, Chief Executive of BALI, commented: “The standard of the entries submitted this year has been phenomenal. The judges spent time in August at Landscape House reviewing all the entries and ultimately agreeing the winners in each category. As a winner, you have demonstrated exemplary standards of professional excellence which is a tremendous achievement. All the team at Landscape House congratulate you and your team on your fantastic accomplishment.”

Now in its 49th year, the BALI National Landscape Awards continue to serve as the industry’s benchmark for excellence, celebrating innovation, sustainability, and creativity across the UK’s landscaping sector. The awards honour contractors, designers, and maintenance professionals who demonstrate exceptional skill, commitment, and passion in their work.

Saul Huxley, idverde Organic Development Director said “We are immensely proud to see our work at Wormwood Scrubs recognised with a BALI National Landscape Award in the Nature Conservation & Biodiversity Enhancement category. This achievement is a testament to the dedication of Kate McVay, our committed idverde colleagues, and the many community volunteers whose energy and passion bring real value to this unique space in London. Working in close partnership with the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham and the RSPB, we have focused on enhancing habitats, improving biodiversity, and creating opportunities for people to engage with nature. This award reflects the power of collaboration and our shared commitment to protecting and enhancing the natural environment for both wildlife and future generations.”

The 2025 celebration will take place at JW Grosvenor House, London, on Friday 5 December, where idverde will join fellow winners to celebrate this achievement and hope to take home the coveted Principal Award.

This win adds to idverde’s proud history of recognition at the BALI Awards, reinforcing its position as a leader in sustainable landscape management and environmental enhancement.

idverde extends its thanks to the teams and partners whose hard work has made this win possible, and wishes them the best of luck for the awards.
