Southampton Common Nature Play and Water Park

Southampton City Council contracted idverde for the landscaping, supplying and installation works of their £500,000 redevelopment project for the Southampton Common Nature Play and Water Park.

idverde successfully tendered for the works of the Southampton Common Nature Play and Water Park after Surrey based landscape architect Davies White designed a new area. The redevelopment project was commissioned after Southampton City Council wanted to create the Common as a focal point and encourage more of the community to use the facilities and enjoy the outdoors.

As well as completing the works for the project, idverde went above and beyond to help the council to achieve their goal of promoting outdoor activities by organising community engagement days, such as woodworking workshops. The workshops were run by Andy Frost who created bespoke elements for the play area.

idverde also wanted to include the community in every aspect and was keen to source equipment from local companies. For example, the timber came from a local tree services company.

Timescales were a challenge as there were long lead times for equipment and services. In addition to this, the team encountered bad weather that left the ground waterlogged. As a result, idverde took the decision to allow the site to recover and came off the project for a short time so that the ground would not be damaged. Despite the issues faced, idverde worked continuously to ensure they successfully met the required deadlines. The open day was attended by hundreds of children and adults and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
