The Shinfield Eastern Relief Road built by Swindon contractor, Hochtief UK, and is part of the new transportation links and facilities needed to deliver the Shinfield Parish Major Development and to facilitate developments at the Thames Valley Science Park, as well as for local housing.

idverde was awarded the contract to supply and plant ornamental and native trees, shrubs, and hedges along the new 1.8km road. We were also responsible for the seeding of verges and embankments, as well as meadow seeding and cutting.

The planting is intended to reduce air and noise pollution caused by traffic, as well as providing a habitat for varied species in order to aid the area’s biodiversity.

As this was a long-running project, involving co-ordination with other contractors, our work spanned several planting seasons and involved great flexibility, carrying out batches of work as plots along the road became accessible.

In order to maximise the available planting time we used cell grown plants when the bare root season ended in March to enable planting to continue throughout the year.

The works were completed in October 2017, and idverde will undertake regular maintenance until 2022 to ensure the successful establishment of the scheme.
