idverde’s commitment to community enrichment has taken root in Eastbourne, transforming outdoor learning environments for local children. Three schools, Gildredge House, St John’s Meads CE Primary School, and Cavendish Pre-School, have recently benefited from this added-value project, which has brought new life to their Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) outdoor areas.
At Gildredge House, the support from Operations Director Darren Pillar and the idverde team has been instrumental in upgrading their sandpit and woodchip zones. EYFS Teacher Victoria Blackwell highlighted the profound impact these natural play areas have on child development. “Sandpits and woodchip areas provide rich, multisensory learning opportunities that support physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development,” she explained.
The enhancements foster:
- Sensory development through tactile exploration of sand and woodchips.
- Physical development via digging, scooping, pouring, climbing, jumping, and balancing.
- Creativity and imagination that encourages imagination and problem-solving.
- Fine motor skills essential for writing and precision tasks.
- Social and emotional development through shared play and cooperation.
- Understanding of the world by exploring natural materials which fosters curiosity about their properties and how they relate to the environment.
Victoria added, “Darren’s support has been invaluable to us being able to support the development of these skills within our setting.”
