The London Borough of Southwark’s was formed in 1965 from the former area of the Metropolitan Borough of Southwark, the Metropolitan Borough of Camberwell, and the Metropolitan Borough of Bermondsey, and has a population of approximately 302,500.

Southwark arguably benefits from some of the best parks and green spaces in the country, having been awarded 28 Green Flags (Keep Britain Tidy’s Awards for high quality green spaces) in 2017 – the third highest number of Green Flags awarded to an English local authority that year, and the second highest total for a London borough.
