The National Apprenticeship Service coordinates National Apprenticeship Week to celebrate the success of Britain’s apprenticeships and the positive impact that they have on individuals, businesses and the economy as a whole.
The week aims to increase awareness, understanding and demand for apprenticeships by showing businesses who may not be involved in schemes how successful they can be, and also encouraging young people to consider apprenticeships when they leave full-time education.
The theme for National Apprenticeship Week 2014 is: Great Apprenticeships , “Great Businesses” are made by apprentices and apprenticeships lead to “Great Prospects.”
We share this sentiment and the success of our ‘Grow Your Own Apprentice’ scheme has led to increased opportunities for young people to start apprenticeships with The Landscape Group each year.
Matthew Bryant, a horticultural apprentice based at our Bristol contract also achieved success by making it to the final shortlist in the Green-Tech Horticultural Apprentice of the Year competition, run by Horticulture Week. http://www.hortweek.com/Landscape/article/1221815/shortlisted-candidate-number-10-matthew-bryant/
We’ve also worked with environmental and community regeneration charity, Groundwork South, to form an innovative partnership approach providing real work experience for Groundwork’s apprentice Green Teams. So far, the Green Teams have been working alongside our professional teams on our contracts with Mendip District Council and Bristol City Council. This has been a great success, especially on an individual level for young people like Harry, who shares his experience in the video you can view on our case study.
This year’s apprentices are studying a more diverse range of specialisms than ever before. Throughout the UK, we have apprentices studying Horticulture, Trees and Timber, Land Based Engineering Operations and Human Resources. Our latest apprentices are as keen as ever and making their mark as valued members of their teams. Over the course of National Apprenticeship Week, we’ll be sharing more of their experiences on our website and through Twitter – so watch this space!
