idverde UK receives Principal Awards for its Grounds Maintenance and Hard Landscaping work in recognition of exemplary levels of professionalism, workmanship and client satisfaction.
Green services provider, idverde UK, and its clients had a fantastic day at the 40th British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) Awards on Friday 2nd December, coming away with two coveted Principal Awards for grounds maintenance and hard landscaping works carried out in 2016.
Held annually at London’s Grosvenor House in Park Lane the BALI National Landscape Awards, in association with Horticulture Week and headline sponsor Green-tech, recognise excellence in landscape design, construction and maintenance, and Affiliate customer service, achieved by registered members of the British Association of Landscape Industries. 127 entries were received this year and a total of 102 awards made.
idverde UK received Principal Awards for Queen’s Park in Loughborough (Grounds Maintenance Free Public Access category) and Exchange Quay in Salford (Hard Landscaping Construction, non-domestic, cost over £1.5m). Principal Awards are presented to the scheme judged best in each of the Awards’ 28 categories, with Queen’s Park beating five other National Award-winning entries, and Exchange Quay, three, to be named cream of the crop.
idverde UK (via its subsidiary company, Quadron Services) has maintained Queen’s Park on behalf of its client, Charnwood Borough Council, since 2014. A head gardener and horticultural supervisor lead the day-to-day maintenance of this 4ha park, which features many formal beds, a bowling green and three play areas.
The park was visited by one of BALI’s team of judges as part of the adjudication process, who commented: “This lovely park in the centre of Loughborough is very well maintained by the contractor under a 20-year rolling maintenance programme. There has already been a great deal of progressive improvement and, together with the Friends of Queen’s Park, the contractor is making great strides to restore this Victorian gem to its former glory… it is a credit to the contractor and to the community.”
Salford’s Exchange Quay is one of Greater Manchester’s landmark office developments. idverde carried out extensive hard landscaping works to the site on behalf of client, Hunter Property Fund Management. Works included disconnection and removal of lighting, installation of new drainage, construction of a staircase, new highway construction, installation of street furniture, and extensive soft landscaping.
The BALI judge who visited the scheme noted: “This is a superb scheme where the contractor was responsible for all aspects, including paving, steps, resin bound pathways, signage, seating and lighting. The site required that some existing features be incorporated into the new scheme and the contractor has achieved this beautifully. All aspects, including the planting, are finished to a very high standard, despite the logistical challenges the project presented.”
Members of idverde staff and their clients attended the Awards ceremony, which was hosted by writer, broadcaster and former MP Gyles Brandreth. Mr Brandreth addressed the audience of a record-breaking c. 950 BALI members and guests during the luncheon and joined Awards sponsors on the stage to present the Principal and Special Awards to 22 BALI members.
In addition to receiving two Principal Awards, idverde was also pleased to sponsor the award for the best Regeneration Scheme costing over £500,000, which was presented to Willerby Landscapes for their regeneration of King’s Cross. This scheme also went on to win this year’s Grand Award, BALI’s highest accolade.
Clive Ivil, Managing Director of idverde’s Community Open Spaces, division, said of the awards: “We are delighted that three of the sites where idverde UK delivers grounds maintenance were shortlisted for BALI Awards, and are extremely pleased that Queen’s Park has been awarded the top prize in its category. This is the result of a true and professional team effort, and credit must of course go to our many dedicated staff who work in partnership with our clients, and the enthusiastic and supportive local ‘Friends of’ groups, year-round to deliver excellent standards of grounds maintenance.”
Commenting on the Principal Award for Exchange Quay, idverde’s North West Regional Director, Phil Topping said: “idverde is proud to be associated with this award-winning project. As ever, the quality of the projects in this category is outstanding, and we are delighted to have won the Principal Award. The Exchange Quay scheme is a great example of what can be achieved, and is the result of a team working together to produce a very high quality prestigious project.”
idverde’s Chief Executive Officer, Nick Temple-Heald, added: “Following the coming together of The Landscape Group and Quadron Services earlier this year to form idverde, it is fantastic to see our now integrated company recognised with two prestigious BALI Principal Awards.
“The BALI Awards are considered the ‘Oscars’ of our industry, and huge congratulations must go to the idverde staff who have worked so hard to deliver these outstanding results.
“Not only are these awards testament to the skill and dedication of our staff, they demonstrate the broad spectrum of landscaping and maintenance services and exemplary standards that our clients can expect from idverde.”
The idverde team offers their congratulations and thanks to BALI and the Awards’ sponsors for an enjoyable and entertaining event.
