idverde Proud To Maintain 120 Of The Country’s Best Green Spaces | Green Flag Awards

idverde is delighted that 120 of the sites it maintains on behalf of its clients are flying the Green Flag this year, denoting them as some of the country’s best quality green spaces. This includes 12 sites which were awarded the Green Flag award accolade for the first time this year.

idverde’s client, the London Borough of Southwark boasts 30 Green Flag sites, the second highest of any London Borough and the joint third highest total of a local authority in England.

The Green Flag is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained, and has excellent visitor facilities. The Green Flag Awards Scheme is run by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, who set the standard for the management of parks and beaches, inspire people to be litter-free, to waste less and to live more.

Commenting on this year’s Awards, Keep Britain Tidy Chief Executive Allison Ogden-Newton OBE said: “This year, more than ever, our parks and green spaces have been a lifeline and we know that millions of people have used them to relax, meet friends, exercise or simply escape for a short time.

“It is testament to the incredible dedication and hard work of parks staff and volunteers that, despite the challenges that went along with record numbers of visitors, over 2,000 parks have achieved the highest international standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.”

idverde sees the Green Flag Award not merely as a simple performance indicator, but as the result of close partnership working with its clients and local communities. This year’s awards sees the addition of a number of sites where idverde not only carries out parks management and maintenance, but where our Greenspace Development Team has worked closely on the Green Flag application process with our client, including writing bespoke Green Flag Management Plans for their parks to ensure these important spaces continue to be managed inline with best practice and with maximum benefit to the communities they serve.

Andrew Kauffman, Head of idverde’s Greenspace Development Team, said: “We’re delighted that it has been another record-breaking year for Green Flags. With the challenges brought about this year as a result of Covid-19 our parks have been more important than ever as spaces where people are able to exercise, relax, and safely meet friends and family. It is very important that the UK’s parks are recognised for the important role they play in maintaining the wellbeing of our local communities and we are proud to have been able to contribute to 120 of Britain’s parks and green spaces being recognised with this accolade.”
