idverde apprentices learn at Britain’s most diverse botanical gardens

idverde’s Apprentices from across the country spent a day at the prestigious Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, in February as an opportunity to come together as a group and to learn at one of the world’s leading botanical gardens, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The 23 apprentices, representing 14 of our contracts are all studying for Level 2 and 3 horticulture and landscaping qualifications through idverde’s in-house Performance Campus. For many, the visit to Kew was their first opportunity to meet each other and to compare ideas and experiences.

As well as the chance to get together, the day was invaluable in progressing the apprentices’ training, with opportunities to identify and learn about plants at one of the most diverse collections at any botanic garden in the world, and to build up their portfolios.

The day was very much enjoyed by all who attended, with many of the apprentices commenting that they would love to come back in the summer, and we hope to arrange a further visit later in the year to see how the gardens have changed and developed.

Some of the positive feedback following the Apprentices’ visit:

“Thank you so much for taking Natasha yesterday, it is all she has spoken about today and has prompted her to progress further”
– Brian Henry (Southwark Cemeteries Supervisor)

“On Tuesday we visited Kew Gardens for the second time which I was really excited for due to the fact that the first visit was very informative but quite restricted. However, this time we had time to walk around and explore. Although we didn’t get enough to see all of it, it was still an enjoyable and inspiring day. I would love to have the opportunity to go back again in the summer to not only see the plants when they’ve flowered but to also see the difference it brings to the park.”
– Gavin Andrews (Apprentice)

idverde would like to extend its thanks to Martin Staniforth at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew for his assistance in arranging this visit.
