A group of 27 volunteers from racketsport equipment experts PWP, led by a joint Timebank and idverde team, braved the worst of the British summer weather to take part in a corporate volunteer day in Southwark‘s Burgess Park on 2nd August.
The team distributed 10 metric tonnes of pea shingle on the Swales – the sunken gravel gardens designed to harvest rainwater run-off – near Burgess Park’s Old Kent Road entrance.
Despite torrential rain, the team completed the task and even had time to undertake some additional weeding, edging, and mulching of the adjacent tree pits and shrub beds.
idverde’s Community Development Manager, Andy Robinson, said: “This was a great result all round and a real value-added task. Many thanks to the PWP team for all their hard work, and to Timebank and the Burgess Park gardening team for making this a great success!”
