The Strand: Harbour Public Realm Transformation Project in Torquay

The Strand in Torquay is undergoing the biggest transformation project that Torquay has seen in decades. Started in November 2023 and due to finish this coming Autumn, idverde’s Dan Hill and Jaimie Monteiro have been key in implementing the temporary traffic management to keep the area moving during the works.

Montel Civil Engineering Ltd commented; “Montel Civil Engineering Ltd have engaged idverde to design, manage and implement the temporary traffic management for the delivery of the scheme on behalf of Torbay Council. With the phasing of the Works agreed with Torbay, it was down to Dan Hill to design and implement a TM scheme that will allow us to work in a safe environment.

Once on site it was clear that the dynamics of the pedestrian and vehicular traffic was very different to the expected environment, alterations, adaptations were being carried out on a daily basis by Dan Hill and his Site Supervisor, Jaimie Monteiro.

Safety for the pedestrians crossing the live carriageways was proving very complicated, Dan attended site to evaluate the flow of pedestrian traffic, followed by the re-design and implementation of a more robust scheme.

After receiving an instruction to provide additional temporary lighting, Dan was able source and erect solar powered tower lights within 48 hours, in time for the weekend.

Working near the harbour has also necessitated the management of abnormal loads through the Works and on each occasion, we have performed without incident. Dan and Jaimie have formed an integral part of the team here on site and are a pleasure to work with.”

We love celebrating our team’s dedication, innovation and commitment to raising the standards of land management and transformation.
