Members of idverde’s Southwark team were delighted to attend the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London’s (CONEL) annual Excellence Awards on 07 December, where they were presented with the college’s Employer Excellence Award.

CONEL’s annual awards ceremony celebrates the success of top performing students and staff, as well as the great partnerships the college has with employers.

idverde’s Southwark team has been working in partnership with CONEL since 2011 and the college has delivered training in many areas, including horticulture, management, and team leading, to over 100 idverde staff.

Currently 90% of staff on idverde’s Southwark contract have completed an NVQ Level 2 qualification, with 30% also having completed Level 3, and another 30% well on their way to completing their Level 3 qualification, with support from CONEL.

idverde’s Damon Lee and Gerry Kelsey are based on the company’s Southwark contract and provide training to the company’s apprentices and those staff wishing to increase their skills with a formal horticultural qualification. Both are soon to complete the Edexcel Level 3 Award in Assessing the Quality of Assessment, in conjunction with CONEL, after which they will be qualified to formally assess learners undertaking National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs). This will have benefits for idverde’s already thriving staff training and development  and apprenticeship schemes and will mean the company is able to expand the range of formal qualifications it is able to deliver to its staff in house.

Damon says: “During the last twelve months working in partnership with CONEL lots of support has been offered so that I could pass my assessor certificate and train students in Horticulture. To receive this award shows true recognition of how both CONEL and idverde have full interest in training staff to the best of their abilities in many different qualifications. I am also overwhelmed to have been mentioned in the award and feel privileged for this and to be part of the training programme.”

Gerry adds: “I feel privileged to be included in this award. The dedication and professional support that has been offered by CONEL coupled with idverde has been first class. The assessor course has given me a chance to give back knowledge gained over a 30 year period and it is a great honour to be able to train students for the continuation of our horticultural profession.”

idverde’s Training Manager, Elaine Callaghan, added: “Working with CONEL for several years shows how dedicated the idverde team at Southwark is to developing its staff. This year Damon and Gerry have been working towards their assessor qualification so that they will be able to take their own staff through horticultural apprenticeship. They  should be really proud of their achievements in this area, where they can pass on their own knowledge and skills in order to develop their team further.”

Commenting at the college’s awards ceremony, Terry Burns, Contract Manager at idverde, said: “It’s great to receive an award and be invited to such a fantastic ceremony. We feel very privileged to have been part of the celebration.”
