The Orders of St John Care Trust

The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT) is one of the UK’s leading not-for-profit care organisations working solely to provide high quality care for older people.

The Trust provides care, support and housing to residents and tenants across Gloucestershire, Lincolnshire, Oxfordshire, Suffolk, West Sussex, and Wiltshire.

idverde has been working in partnership with the Orders of St John Care Trust since 2020, when we were awarded the contract to provide grounds maintenance at Trust properties across 54 sites in Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, and Wiltshire.

Grounds Maintenance Services

idverde began delivering a full range of grounds maintenance services to the Orders of St John Care Trust sites in Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, and Wiltshire in November 2020.

Grounds maintenance services delivered under the contract include:

  • Grass cutting
  • Maintenance of mixed flower borders
  • Shrub maintenance, including pruning, weeding and spot treatments
  • Hedge maintenance
  • Leaf collection
  • Cleansing and maintenance of paths, hard surfaces and handrails.

Grass cutting

Grass is cut 23 times per year, with the frequency varying throughout the year. An overview is shown below.

Shrub maintenance

Aims:

  • To provide healthy and attractive shrubs that are maintained to allow maximum seasonal displays of flowering, attractive foliage and stems and as appropriate to each species.
  • To provide weed free shrub beds
  • To ensure that plant growth does not impede safe pedestrian access through the garden or impede views from windows or essential sight lines.
  • To ensure site looks tidy after each maintenance cut

Hedge maintenance

Aims:

  • To provide even and neatly clipped hedge lines with healthy and dense plant growth
  • All hedge lines to be cut on both sides and top either once or twice between May and October depending on the species

Mixed flower borders

Aims:

  • To provide healthy and attractive mixed flower borders that are maintained to allow maximum season displays of flowering, attractive foliage and stems as appropriate to each species.
  • To provide weed free borders.
  • To ensure that plant growth does not impede safe pedestrian access in the grounds or impede views from windows or essential sight lines.
  • To ensure site looks tidy after each maintenance visit and is free from arisings and litter.

Leafing

  • The Contractor will collect leaves from all areas, fortnightly between 1st October and 1st

Paths and hard surfaces

  • The Contractor will keep the paths, terraces and pedestrian hard surfaces free from visible weed, moss and other plant growth that may cause slip or trip hazards at all times.
