idverde Sponsors Student for Horticulture Degree

idverde are delighted to partner with CAFRE, the leading land-based college in Northern Ireland and continue to support its students who are the future of the Horticulture industry. This is our fourth year sponsoring the Foundation Degree Horticulture Bursary and we are also proud to sponsor the Honours Degree student bursary throughout 2022 as people are the centre of everything we do at idverde.

As a sustainability focused organisation, we recognise the importance of the environment around us and our impact. We have recently become a Carbon Neutral Company and have set ambitious targets to reduce our waste outputs, invest in battery powered equipment, invest in diesel alternatives and reduce chemical usage.

Our winner for the Honours Degree student bursary was Kevin McVeigh!

Laura Henderson, Employability Manager said, ‘We are absolutely delighted to award Kevin with this year’s idverde bursary and hopefully we will see him again for a placement with idverde!’

About The Bursary

We set this years bursary title as:

“What do you understand to be the key barriers to building a sustainable Horticulture industry in the next 10 years?”

Kevin gave a detailed answer in a good level of detail with clear research into idverde and our industry. He touched on issues such as skills shortages, training, education, women in the industry, government support, technology advancements, green waste and health & wellbeing and many more. He had a good understanding of idverde’s plans to achieve the B-Corporation sustainability accreditation by 2024 and he emphasised the fact that all businesses in our industry should strive to protect the 3 pillar principles of People, Planet and Performance.

Congratulations to our winner Kevin!
