idverde provides a wide range of green services, including grounds maintenance, landscape creation, and advice services, to both private and public sectors across the UK.
idverde and students from Clanrye completed a tree planting project during National Tree Week at Armagh Observatory and Planetarium. This was the first time the Level 1 Construction and Horticulture class from Clanrye have had an opportunity to see a live landscaping project, the collaboration allowed 10 local students from Newry and Portadown to develop their skills and gain an insight into tree planting.
Our colleagues gave a talk to the Clanrye students along with their teacher George Moffett and Programme Manager, Jordi Boxberger on health and safety, training, landscape design and operations. With the aim of helping the students gain a better understanding of the industry and encourage their involvement.
Laura Henderson, our Employability Manager said, “We are delighted to support the students on this wonderful project and the grounds at the Observatory are the perfect location, at this optimum time for winter tree planting. Our Landscape Architect, Patrick Hamill was on hand to provide practical tips and advice for the students on how to make the most out of outdoor spaces. The partnership with Clanrye is an opportunity not only for us to potentially recruit motivated young people with an interest in Horticulture but also to give back to the local community, providing placements and work experience days.”
Sinead Mackle from Armagh Observatory & Planetarium said, “Our grounds provide the perfect area for people to walk and explore. We love to see guests enjoying the outdoor space here and we are really pleased to have some more beautiful trees that we will enjoy seeing flourish. Having just returned from climate change summit, COP26, we are particularly excited about this collaboration. Trees and hedgerows are some of the most powerful tools we have in the fight against climate change!”
